We are a small committee which
began life in November 1995 in memory of Donna Sharpe, whose life was cut short in
June of
that year. Donna died in a road traffic accident, caused through the inexperience of a
driver. Initially the committee was set up as one of the coping strategies for some of
Donna's family and friends.
Money is raised at various events throughout the
year and donated to various deserving causes. These were chosen to reflect Donna's
interests and to support causes she had supported herself. In this way it was felt that
Donna's charitable spirit could be kept alive as well as her memory.
It was decided that although these aims are still important, it would be
beneficial to put some of our energies into raising awareness of the risks young
inexperienced drivers pose to themselves and others. the bulk of the monies raised has gone to "Learn and Live"
(the parent's campaign for safer
driving).
The Donna Sharpe Memorial Fund has purchased several C.D. ROMs and leaflets to donate to
schools and colleges, youth groups and youth projects in the area. the committee are also
willing to give talks or provide information to anyone who might have an interest.

(the parent's campaign for safer driving) is currently encouraging people to write to
their M.P's supporting the introduction of P plates and a graduated driving
license.
