BROUGHTON PLAYERS
Broughton Players (or BADS, as they are called, as an acronym - no other reason!) are the
drama society of Broughton Village, formed around 15 years ago to entertain, and to have
fun doing it. The first performance in 1989 was in support of the local school's Parents
and Teachers Association. Soon after this the group set up as an independent entity,
donating some income to local causes and using the remainder to improve costumes and set
year-on-year. Our current project is to have a storage facility built within the village.
Shows
We produce several shows a year, including plays (comedy and drama), variety shows,
murder-mystery evenings - written by members and an annual Pantomime.
Members
Membership is currently open to those living in Northamptonshire.
We have around 25 members and rehearse each week at either Broughton Working Mens Club,
the Village Hall or anyone's house big enough to serve the purpose. Rehearsals are usually
an enjoyable event regardless of the Director's expression.
As well as acting, members also direct, produce, create costumes, paint the set, build the
scenery and set up the lighting and sound effects. Around half the roles on each
production are behind-scenes and these are at least as much fun as taking all the glory
onstage (so I'm told).
The Society is always looking for new members of all ages and talents, both to act and/or
to join the backstage team.
