BROUGHTON CONSERVATION AREA

HAVE YOUR SAY ON THE PROPOSED BROUGHTON CONSERVATION AREA

Kettering Borough Council is currently preparing a Conservation Area Appraisal for Broughton. This document will help to inform planners, developers and the general public of the special architectural and historic qualities that make the centre of Broughton worthy of designation as a Conservation Area. The Council needs the help of the residents and businesses of Broughton to make this document as relevant and as accurate as possible.

The Conservation Area Appraisal is intended to describe and analyse the historic character and appearance of the area that makes it special, and justifies its designation as a Conservation Area. The Appraisal will highlight what contributes to or detracts from the architectural and historic importance of the area. It will inform the future management of the proposed Conservation Area.

Kettering Borough Council is organising an informal drop-in session for local residents and businesses to give their views, share their knowledge and tell the Council about the history of Broughton. The event is to be held on Wednesday 26th August 2009 at the Broughton Village Hall from 6.30pm until 8.30pm. Everyone that has a link to Broughton is welcome to come and share their knowledge.

Councillor Jim Hakewill, Portfolio Holder for Growth/Sustainable Communities, said:

“One of the many advantages of living in, working in or visiting Kettering Borough is the rich architectural heritage that we have. Things have moved on from the days where heritage and culture was removed in the name of progress. Conservation Area status does not mean that buildings or environments are preserved when they are incapable of economic use; it simply protects what is good and guides us where change is planned. I know that the highly active and caring Parish Council and residents of Broughton will be keen to contribute to the establishment of the Broughton Conservation Area”.
